Luxury Vinyl Tile (LVT) Design Flooring is amongst the more prevalent choices for the shrewd homeowner, as it combines the look and appeal of natural materials with the convenience, flexibility and practicality of traditional vinyl.
Designed to mimic real wood, stone and other naturally occurring materials, LVT Design Flooring looks and feels like the genuine article, with the grain of wood and the worn surface of stone brilliantly replicated. You and your guests will only realise it is a clever reproduction when you feel the warmth, quietness and comfort of the floor.
LVT Design Flooring is the best solution if want the convenience of vinyl flooring with a little more luxury. It's waterproof, versatile and looks fantastic, making it ideal for any room where you would consider natural wood, stone or ceramic flooring: literally any room in the house.
It's ideal for kitchens, where spills can easily be wiped away; bathrooms, where its waterproof properties come into their own; and conservatories and hallways, where the outdoors comes inside. However, the warmth and softness of LVT means it can work equally well in dining rooms, living rooms and bedrooms, where it offers a cool, sophisticated alternative to carpets.
There are two kinds of LVT Design Flooring, one employing a clic mechanism, where the tiles and planks can be clicked together on installation, the other, known as dry-back or stick-down where the tiles and planks are physically glued to a sub-floor on installation.
They each have different characteristics, so we explain the features and benefits of both, to enable you come to an informed decision regarding the best floor for you.
Fitted by gluing the flooring directly to a sub-floor, this type of Luxury Vinyl Tile performs well even in areas exposed to high temperatures such as conservatories and rooms with lots of windows, as it will shrink and expand with the temperature variations.
The other benefit is visual: we can glue co-ordinating feature strips in between individual tiles and planks to create some innovative design effects, like borders or grout lines.
The main benefit is that is a much quicker to install than stick-down and it can be laid on several different types of sub-floor as long as it is even.
In areas of high temperature such as conservatories, the floor will need to be stuck down or the edges glued together using Cold Weld. Our experts will advise on suitability for your home.
Fitting LVT Design Flooring is definately a job for the professionals, as it requires specialist treatment to get the best results. LVT Design Flooring can be fitted over most types of sub-floor, however the sub-floor will often require some form of pre-treatment to ensure a perfect fit. We visit your home to take accurate measurements and determine each room's suitability for LVT Design Flooring and to assess what preparation will be necessary.
For traditional vinyl flooring, although fitting can be done by a competent DIYer, we would usually recommend our professional fitting service, as you get the piece-of-mind of knowing the flooring has been fitted by experts and everything including the preparation work has been done properly.
With traditional vinyl, preperation is everything. The sub-floor must be flat and even. The cleaner and smoother the sub-floor, the better the vinyl will look. Any contours below the flooring will show through the soft, flexible vinyl. If the sub-floor is uneven, we may need to screed it to remove bumps and lumps.
If laying on wood, we may need to secure loose floor-boards, hammer down protruding nails and sand any high spots.
If laying on concrete, a smoothing compound may be required and we will check moisture levels to see if a damp membrane should be laid.
